Day four of our Activity Stay 2017 has been a busy one as we headed to Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt to take part in rock climbing, archery and raft building. Luckily, everyone stayed afloat!
Today was all about challenging ourselves. All of the young people at the Activity Stay are at different stages of their cancer journey; some are undergoing treatment and others are in remission, so everyone has their own individual obstacles to overcome as part of their diagnosis and recovery. The activities at Herts Young Mariners Base were a chance to challenge the body and the mind and for the young people to work together and support each other, as we hope they will do long after the Activity Stay draws to a close.
Throughout the day, the teens have all been cheering each other on; whether it’s reaching the top of the rock climbing tower or getting a ‘bullseye’ on the dart board, everyone has achieved so much. We are overwhelmed to see such a growth in confidence amongst the group and so many new friendships being made.
After a much-needed rest upon our return to Mill Hill School, we have taken to the mic for an evening of karaoke. From Grease to Taylor Swift, we’ve been singing to our hearts content!
A huge thank you to today’s volunteers; Jayne, Brendan, Joe, John and Sam, along with Emma who got the party started this evening.
